Prosecco and cava aren’t always for everyone, so if you’re looking for something a little different then why not try a sparkling wine or go a little more upmarket with a well-known champagne. Of course, you can never go wrong with renowned champagne houses such as Moet, Tattinger and Dom Perignon but champagne doesn’t always have to mean you going over budget. There are plenty of smaller, independent champagne houses to choose from that are still packed with quality. Pick up a bottle of Thierry Massin for less than £20. This light, bubbly champagne has notes of yellow fruits and an aroma of delicate flowers. Similarly, Le Brun De Neuville champagne has the fruity, well-balanced flavour of a chardonnay with a citrus fruit aroma. Sparkling wines also on the list for the festive period include The Clairette de Die cuvee Chambéran, which makes an excellent aperitif, or for something a little different try the red sparkling Quercioli Reggiano Dolce which has hints of cherry and strawberry.
